My action plan for my first goal is coming along nicely. My problem with having to share one lab with 35 teachers may be coming to an end. I was speaking with my principal about how I would love to use more technology with my students but the availability of the lab severely limits the possibilities. She then called the librarian in and our old mobile laptop station is not being used. I will be soon receiving 13 laptops to keep in my room! This is very exciting news to me and it will be enough laptops for my largest class. This will be an excellent resource in providing my students with more technology based activities.
Due to a comment from Derico a couple of weeks ago, I was reminded that Walden gives us a wonderful built-in learning community and I have been embracing the wealth of information in the discussion groups and the blogs. I have also created a small learning community at school for those teachers interested to share the technology ideas they use in their classrooms. This has been very useful since we teach the same students we can discuss what works and what doesn't. Thanks for all of the great advice over the past couple of weeks.

Cheri,
ReplyDeleteCongrats on the great news of the mobile computer lab. That is exciting that you will have this technology available to you any time. Now that you have this unexpected gift, what are your first plans with it? How do you plan to enhance this technology with your students to better their understanding, education, and skills with the use of technology? Also does this new addtion to your classroom change or adjust any of your game plan? Does it change how you will collaborate with your colleages or classmates or even you the material that you wish to inquire about? This mobile technology is so huge for a school that requires a calendar in advance to acess computers, I am just curious how you plan to take the most advantage of the opportunity.
Anyhow, you have mentioned that you rely on colleagues and classmates to aid you in your discovery of technology useage within the classrooms. What kind of items have you become aware of and have you personaly used any of the suggestions? Do you plan to attempt the methods that other educators may have used within their classrooms but it may have not been so successfull? I think that just becasue a form of technology did not work or one does not absolutely mean that it will not work for anyone else. It depends on the topic, educator, setting, and assessment. I would possible attempt these methods anyways, just to one expose them of the opportunity and two see if you have a better outcome. I look forward to hearing what methods you intend to use or have used already since you conducted your game plan and how these change now that you have the technology within your room.
Hey Cherie I think that you are blessed because you did not know when you was gong to find a computer lab that was shared with other teachers. now you lucked up and have a old mobile lab. I was thinking about seeing if you could have the students bring in their own technology (computer, lap top, tablet, e reader, etc.) to make the assignment easier. I recently realized the problems a teacher may run into with having a student bring their own technology. They know their own codes and the ends and out of their computers. The other question would what do you do with the student that does not have their own technology. That student would have to use a computer from the computer lab. I am glad to see you have found out what was missing in your game plan project. Good job and good luck for the future of your game plan.
